I'm looking to jump back into electronic drumming after many years away. The last module I had was an Alesis D4. What I'm looking for is a module with 4-5 REALLY GOOD acoustic sounding kits, perhaps a classic Simmons kit, and a roto-tom kit. I'm not much interested in all the bells and whistles or doing a lot of tweaking. I just want something that's realistic sounding for practicing to CDs at home. I'm currently looking at the Roland TD-9 but I must admit that I wasn't too impressed with the stock sounds when I demoed it at a local store. I've since read that the vex kits will make this module come alive and I would probably target the Acoustix package. My question is whether the TD-9 is the best choice for me. I can afford the TD-12 but it might be overkill given my needs. Will the Acoustix package make the TD-9 sound like a good quality "miked" kit or do I need to upgrade to something else? The online demoes are nice but the music tends to get in the way of being able to evaluate the drum sounds, particularly the toms.
